Despite poor weather in our outdoor shoot of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, the indoor production of the play for Edmonton is a much warmer affair. Religion, prostitution, the police, love, and more are featured in this fun musical theatre piece once again held by my great friends the Walterdale Playhouse. We were there to get the portrait photography and to get a sneak peek of what should be a very active production!
Our outdoor Best Little Whorehouse gallery is available for your viewing pleasure with a few shots from the show below.
Photographing local theatre is a great way to news out to the media. My work for the Edmonton theatre community has appeared in not only Edmonton’s weekly papers (SEE and VUE) but also the St. Albert Gazette, The Edmonton Journal and The Edmonton Sun. We’re a small Edmonton portrait photography studio. If you’d like to get your portraits taken, have your event photographed for media, or have any questions, get in touch with us!

Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds made The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas a household name, but our local Edmonton Walterdale theatre asked me to shoot some promotional and portrait shots for the play. Unfortunately the weather was incredibly chilly and cloudy out, but the ladies fought the strong winds and our outdoor shoot was over as quick as possible to get them back into the warmth and safety of the theatre.

Much like our previous series of One-Act Plays photography, the Walterdale playhouse has once again closed out its play season with a show of one-act plays by local playwrights. We were there to get the portrait and theatre photographs for the media this year as well. Three of my favorite photos from the evening are below, but you can see the entire 2010 one-act plays gallery as well.

The Mailorder Bride was our latest Edmonton portrait and theatre photography mission. The cast were experts in their roles as usual in this tale of a man who pressures the wild son of a dead friend into marrying a mail-order bride in an attempt to settle him down.
Our Mail-order Bride gallery is available for your viewing along with the photos below.

Another comedy thriller has hit Edmonton and it was our job to photograph this great play. Deathtrap is now playing and cannot be missed!
You can see more of the intrigue in the Deathtrap gallery and our photos below.

Photographing a play dealing with themes that many may find uncomfortable is a particular interest of mine. Beautiful Thing follows the story of a youth coming to terms with his sexuality while living with a drug-dealing brother, an abusive, alcoholic father, and more. Through all the difficult moments, it’s a touching story and one that I hope people don’t miss out on. Photographing this play’s somewhat close and quiet moments was effortless, the cast could have easily had me believe they’ve known each other for years.
You can see our Beautiful Thing gallery and more in our photos below.

Tranquilizers, mistaken (and assumed) identities, the opera, and more are features in Lend me a Tenor at the Walterdale Playhouse in our latest Edmonton portrait and theatre photography session. The cast was fantastic and trying to keep a straight face amongst all the comedy was difficult for everyone.
You can see our Lend me a Tenor gallery and more in our photos below.

Here’s our latest set of Edmonton portrait and theatre photography for the Walterdale Theatre! The shoot was a lot of fun as usual, and the young cast were a perfect fit for the roles.
Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean is now playing in Edmonton and features the all-female fan club called “the Disciples of James Dean.” The group meets at a Woolworths five-and-dime branch in McCarthy, Texas.
You can see our Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean gallery and more in our photos below.

In the hot Edmonton summers there’s one event every August guaranteed to warm things up even more- the Cariwest Parade! This year was no exception to the fine tradition of active music, vibrant costumes and good times had by all. We were there to get some portraits and party photos and had so many that we had to make a Cariwest 2009 photo gallery for what we captured.
The sun may be bright, but the lighting doesn’t have to be harsh or overly contrasting if your photographer plans ahead. If you would like us to help you look your most vibrant this summer, get in touch!

Marissa and Kreg were married on this Saturday here in Edmonton. I’ve known the bride for over a decade and was honored when she asked me to photograph their wedding day.
The weather did its best to interfere with our plans, but with a little patience and perseverance we managed to brighten up the Royal Alberta Museum grounds with the smiling wedding party and keep photographing the wedding.
As all fans of cherry blossoms in Edmonton know, the best time of year to photograph them or perhaps possibly the only time to photograph them is the three weeks covering the second half of May and the first week of June. If photographers wait too long the blossoms are on the ground, a shade of pale white, and not nearly as impressive to photograph. If timed properly, and you have a few unspoiled locations tucked away in the back of your mind, you can find them in full bloom and adding to the romance and vibrance of any setting.
Congratulations again to Kreg and Marissa and thank you again for inviting me to photograph your wedding! Photos continue below or you can view more of Kreg and Marissa’s wedding in their wedding gallery.
If you’d like myself, Douglas Dollars, or our studio (RAD GRANDPA) to be your Edmonton wedding photographers, please get in touch with us. We love to record your precious memories and to see you smile.

The Shakespearean tragedy Hamlet comes to Edmonton theatre once again, this time as The Tragicall Historie of Hamlet, Prince of Denmarke at the Walterdale theatre. This was a large production with a great cast and a tale that hasn’t been performed live in Edmonton in quite some time. As usual, it was a pleasure to photograph and I thank the great cast and crew for the opportunity.
You can see more of what has gone rotten in Denmark in the The Tragicall Historie of Hamlet, Prince of Denmarke gallery, and our three photos below.

The play Black Hearts in the Green Room at the Walterdale playhouse in Edmonton features stories of the theatre’s haunted tales and resident ghosts. Seeing the actors in their ghostly makeup was quite a sight and fright, but being mostly friendly spirits my photography wasn’t deterred.
You can see more of the scary tale in the Black Hearts in the Green Room gallery and a sampling of the series below.

Children of a Lesser God was another great Edmonton event photography shoot. I’ve photographed a few plays at the Walterdale in the last two years but hadn’t seen either of the lead actors before. Combining not only acting but signing as well must be taxing on the memory but they pulled it off greatly!
You can see more of the Children of a Lesser God gallery and a sampling of the series below. Don’t miss the play!
